> The Investigation Department
Since its inception the JMDR has always placed great importance to investigations that it has undertaken for people with a general interest about the genocide in West Europe and for those with specific questions about deportees.
Between 800 and 900 enquiries are handled each year in writing or over the counter. Research investigations are usually free of charge. Copies of any relevant documents are often made available to the enquirer captioned with the copyright details of the institution hold the original documents.
The utmost care is given to every enquiry. All the relevant archives are consulted in order to provide the enquirer with all possible available information. The index to all the available archives can be found under the general heading The Archives.
The aim of the JMDR is not to expand as a study centre but to be available to answer the questions and enquiries of researchers, students, relatives of deportees, and members of the public in general.
